I don't know the company, but the ad was for some luxury car, (I think) and it started out with the announcer saying:
"if no one ever challenged the status quo, the world would still be flat."
Um... NO - it wouldn't! because it never WAS flat!!! Regardless of whether anyone "challenged the status quo" and sailed around the world, it would still BE round.
There is such thing as TRUTH. We live in a world that so often thinks that whatever the general populous "thinks" is correct and real. That is simply not true. There are some things that, regardless of what people think, are eternal truths; and you believing or not believing doesn't change them.
Go ahead, challenge the status quo. When designing cars, inventing new gadgets, finding better ways to teach children, whatever... but remember this - when it comes to eternal truths, all of the challenges in the world aren't going to change what IS.

I'm with you - truth is truth! Just because its an accepted norm, doesn't mean it isn't still a stupid idea! (LOL!)
Are some of you all inept? The car commercial stating the Status quo line that "if no one ever challenged the status quo, the world would still be flat" does not mean the world was once flat...it means that for thousands of years Humans believed that to be the truth. It was those that sought out to prove the status quo wrong that this commercial is portraying. What idiots some of you here are.
formosaman - take a deep breathe and RELAX! None of us think the world WAS ever flat. We all understand exactly what the commercial was TRYING to say. We all simply agree that it is really poor writing. As Weston CLEARLY stated, it would have been a simple fix - just add the world THINK (or Believe) - "we would still THINK the world was flat."
Please feel free to NOT read my blog if you feel so strongly about our mental inferiority. No one is forcing you to be here.
